Agencies ready to help struggling families this winter

Natural gas inventories are at a record high, which means many Americans may pay less on their heating bills this winter. However, Energy Outreach Colorado says in this poor economy thousands will need help paying their bills.
The group wants to remind everyone, November 1 is the first day you can apply for LEAP--the low-income energy assistance program. LEAP is a federally funded program designed to pay a portion of low-income households' home energy bills.
Energy Outreach Colorado says the biggest challenge is getting help to those who need it most. "We find that seniors don't want to ask for help. They might be too embarrassed to ask for help," said Jennie Miller, with Energy Outreach Colorado. "Or people who've never had help before, because they never needed it--they don't know where to go," she added.
If you think you'll need help paying your heating bill call 1-866-HEAT-HELP (1-866-432-8435). Again, the first day to apply for LEAP is November 1.
