Early on Saturday, around 6 a.m., Colorado Springs Police Officer's were dispatched to J&K Automotive, on Interpark Drive, to investigate a theft of motor vehicle parts. The reporting party stated that two male subjects were stealing tires and wheels from a motor vehicle.
Upon arrival Springs officers located the vehicle and saw that three tires and wheels were missing. When officers began to check the other vehicles in the parking lot they found one occupied with three persons who were ducking down inside.
As the officer approached the vehicle, the driver backed the vehicle up and drove off leading to a short vehicle pursuit. The suspect vehicle drove a short distance and entered a private parking lot located in the 4000 Block of Sinton Road. The vehicle collided with a curb and all three occupants bailed out and started running.
Two suspects were quickly captured by pursuing officers. The third suspect continued running east bound and entered a fenced lumber yard.
A police K-9 searched the lumber yard, and it was determined that the suspect continued running through the yard and escaped outside of the containment area. All of the stolen property was recovered and returned to the victim.
Both captured suspects, identified as Steven Sanchez and Gail Rennie, were arrested and treated for minor injuries sustained in the accident. The accident resulted in no property damage other than to the suspect vehicle. Both suspects were arrested for Felony Theft of Motor Vehicle Parts.
