Volunteers from the Air Force Academy are helping Colorado Springs maintain part of a walking and biking trail.
Academy personnel are mowing, sweeping and collecting pet waste along two miles of the Woodmen Trail. Chief Master Sgt. Todd Salzman says it's a way for the Academy to show it's part of the community.
Scott Abbott, supervisor of Colorado Springs Regional Parks, Trails and Open Space, says it gives Academy personnel a feeling of stewardship and also helps the city.
Colorado Springs has only one staff person in charge of more than 200 miles of trails.
