AFA graduation do's and don'ts

Wednesday is the big day for about 1,000 Air Force Academy Cadets, as they graduate and start their careers as newly commissioned officers in the Air Force. The 55th Graduating Class will march across the stage at Falcon Stadium Wednesday morning to receive their diplomas.

No doubt the stadium will be filled with cadets' friends and families, as well as the general public wanting to take part in the graduation celebration. But if you plan on going, here's a few reminders about what is and isn't allowed at the graduation:

Stadium gates will open at 7:00 am Wednesday morning. The ceremony starts at 9:40am and will last until approximately 1:00pm. Once the ceremony starts, the gates are closed and no one is allowed in or out for safety precautions until it is over. Everyone must have a ticket to enter the stadium and bring a drivers license or military ID to enter the Academy.

The AFA recommends that ladies where slacks, a skirt or dress, men wear business suit or coat and tie and all military wear service dress. Keep in mind the ceremony is outside and you might have to walk long distances on Academy grounds.

Parking is free, no passes are required. All parking is in Falcon Stadium parking lots 1, 2 and 5. Handicapped parking is available in the south end of lot 5 and north end of lot 1. However there are no elevators in the stadium and handicapped accessible seating is limited and on a first come, first served basis.

Items not allowed: Boxes, alcohol, weapons, firecrackers, beverage containers of any sort, backpacks, large handbags, coolers, thermoses or similar items, food or drinks.

Clear, unopened water bottles are allowed, and refreshments will be provided throughout the stadium. Diaper bags are also allowed when a child is present, however strollers are not permitted.

You can bring a camera or video camera, however guests are not allowed access to the stage or cadets seating area. A professional photographer contracted by the AFA will be on hand and photograph each cadet as they receive their diploma.
