Gay rights groups say they have purchased full-page ads opposing a Boulder Catholic school's decision to eject two children because their parents are a lesbian couple.

Roman Catholic gay rights group DignityUSA and other organizations are advertising in Sunday's Camera newspaper in Boulder, saying the school's decision is hurtful and damages the fabric of the community. The groups say they have also purchased an ad in The Denver Post.

Archbishop of Denver Charles J. Chaput is defending the school's decision, saying Tuesday it's a "painful situation" but the decision is in line with church beliefs.

Neither the parents nor the children have been identified. Messages to the archdiocese Friday were not immediately returned.
