Adams State student treated for meningitis

ALAMOSA, Colo. (AP) - An Adams State College student is being treated for meningitis, prompting warnings to other students.
The (Alamosa) Valley Courier reports that the infected student does not live on campus. The newspaper also says that doctors believe the student appears to have the viral form of the disease, not the more contagious bacterial form.
However, the symptoms of both types are similar. Adams State students are being warned to seek medical care promptly if they develop flu-like symptoms.
Ken Marquez, the vice president for student affairs, says students are encouraged but not required to receive the
meningococcal vaccination.
