Adams County hiring deputies to boost security

BRIGHTON, Colo. (AP) - Adams County is hiring more deputies to help ease jail staffing problems while it continues efforts to impose a higher cap on the number of inmates from local cities.

The cap on the number of inmates housed at the county jail was passed in 2011 and limits communities including Aurora and Commerce City to 30 prisoners.

Towns and cities that jail more than their share of inmates facing municipal charges are assessed $45 a day for each inmate above the cap.

According to the Denver Post (http://tinyurl.com/czhfjkz ), a plan raising the cap to 60 inmates while the increased cap is gradually phased in is not working.
