A Colorado state trooper accused of driving drunk in his patrol car is being treated at a mental health and substance abuse facility.

A lawyer for David Dolan, 48, who's based in the Colorado Springs office, said Monday that Dolan has post-traumatic stress disorder. The lawyer says Dolan's PTSD was caused by the trooper's work on the Colorado State Patrol fatalities unit.

Dolan was arrested March 22 after several drivers called 911 to report a patrol car was being driven erratically.

Dolan is charged with driving under the influence and is on unpaid leave. He's free on $1,000 bail. The next hearing for Dolan is May 7.
