Following several calls by concerned citizens Colorado Springs Police officers were sent to a carwash in the area of Verde and S. Academy Blvd. Reports to the police claimed that what appeared to be a group of customized cars in a car club were driving recklessly in the area of Fountain and S. Academy Blvd. When officers arrived at the car wash they made attempted to contact the group to talk with them about the complaints. As officers entered the parking lot a 1990 green convertible Cadillac sped from the area and the driver failed to stop when officers attempted to stop the car with their emergency equipment.
A brief vehicle pursuit occurred before the driver bailed from the car and ran from officers. The unoccupied Cadillac rolled through an intersection and came to rest in the front yard of 4206 Halstead Circle. The suspect who was later identified as Demetrius Martin was chased through the parking lot of the Hunting Meadows Apartments into a park before being captured. Officers reportedly deployed their tasers to subdue Martin who continued to resist arrest. After being attended to by paramedics, Martin was taken to the Criminal Justice Center where he was booked on numerous charges to include Vehicular Eluding.
