A close call when weapon fires through apartment walls accidentally

Following multiple reports of shots fired around 1:45 Saturday afternoon, officers from the Falcon Division of the Colorado Springs Police Department responded to an apartment located at 4645 Spring Canyon Heights. When officers arrived they investigated what was later determined to be an accidental discharge of a .45 caliber handgun.
Kyle Hastings, the owner of the weapon told police that he had accidentally fired the weapon. The bullet traveled through the wall of his apartment into the bathroom of the adjoining apartment within 4 feet of the residents who were in the bathroom at the time of the shooting. The bullet also traveled through another wall before lodging in a door to a water heater closet.
Hastings was cited with Prohibited Use of a Weapon and released on scene.
