Church bus crash near Gunnison injures 8

Colorado State Troopers say that an 11 year old girl was seriously injured along with 7 others who were on board a church bus from Texas that rolled along Highway 114 west of Gunnison.

The group from Trinity United Methodist Church in Denton, Texas was headed to Crested Butte on a bus operated by Gotta Go Express Trail Ways.

Troopers say the driver, Fred Kornegay, 47, lost control on the icy snow packed roadway and veered the bus off the right side of the road and where rolled onto its side.

There were 46 people onboard, ages 5-71. The injured 11 year old girl was taken by ambulance to St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction. The remaining passengers were also taken to Gunnison Valley Hospital with minor injuries.

The State Patrol closed the highway while emergency crews were on the the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
