74-year-old escapes assisted living facility, wanted on charges

Colorado Springs Police are looking for a 74-year-old man with multiple warrants for his arrest, including for a parole violation on a murder charge out of Oregon; Wayne A. Lufkin left an assisted living facility he had been checked into sometime after 2:00 a.m. Sunday.

Lufkin has a state warrant for failing to appear at a court hearing on several charges including giving false information to a police officer and criminal impersonation, according to Colorado Springs Police. They say Lufkin also has an active warrant out of Oregon for a parole violation on a murder charge. Police say the warrant shows Lufkin is only extraditable out of states in the northwest portion of the U.S., according to a release.

Crews at the assisted living facility on the 2400 block of E. Fountain Ave. say they last saw Lufkin at 2 a.m., when they checked back around 3:15 a.m. he was gone.

Lufkin is six feet tall, 185 pounds, with short (balding) white hair; police say he was possibly wearing blue jeans, a light blue polo shirt, and white tennis shoes. If you have any information on Lufkin's whereabouts call the Colorado Springs Police Department at 444-7000; you can also call Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP (7867).
