7 year-old to NASA: I want to go to Mars

A seven-year-old boy named Dexter wrote a letter to NASA. In his letter, he says he wants to go to Mars when NASA is able to send people to the Red Planet. He also asks how to become an astronaut.

NBC News says Dexter, who lives in Great Britain, visited NASA last year. His mom, posting on Reddit, says he was surprised and "as excited as opening presents on Christmas" when Dexter received a return letter from NASA. NASA encouraged Dexter to follow his aspirations and said in their letter to him "Just think - in a few years, you could be one of the pioneers that may help lead the world's activities for better understanding of our earth and for exploring space," according to NBC News.

Along with that letter, Dexter also received photos of Mars and of the Mars rover called "Curiosity."

NASA says they receive about 500 letters every year from aspiring astronauts. They also tell NBC News that they enjoy reading the letters.

So what is Dexter's next step? He is working on a new letter. This one is to be sent to European Space Agency.
