7 people have been arrested in a series of burglaries in El Paso County, including Monument and Black Forest. Those arrests helped solve 110 open cases.
The El Paso County Sheriff's Office says that the crimes were solved in part because of Neighborhood Watch groups.
According to the Sheriff's Office, people were reporting that they were seeing a suspicious person wearing a reflective safety vest in the area when the crimes were committed. This information was spread through Neighborhood Watch groups and investigators then a got a tip identifying one of the suspects. Shortly after that several other suspects in the burglaries were arrested in connection with over 100 burglaries.
During 7 search warrants, officers found stolen items valued over $100,000. At one location there was so much stolen stuff that the Sheriff's Office had to rent a moving truck to bring it to the Evidence Facility. Many of the items including vehicles, firearms, jewelry, money and appliances have been returned to their rightful owners. Arrested suspects are Jake Cox, 27, Ernesto Quintana, 24, Robert Bowick , 25, Richard Flewwellin, 41, Ekaterina Dettling, 28, Jose Hernandez, 36, and Winter Womack, 22.
