Non-profit Project Smart Light is giving away 25,000 energy efficient light bulbs to Colorado Springs and Fountain residents.

Applicants must we willing to install at least 10 CFL bulbs and turn back an equal number of old-style incandescent bulbs. The CFL bulbs are designed to replace 60, 75 and 100 watt incandescent bulbs. The only catch is that recipients have to pay their own utility bills.

Project Smart Light estimates each CFL bulb will save the average resident $39 to $50 over the six-year life of the bulb.
