EL PASO COUNTY - Two teenagers were killed and another was seriously injured after a car full of four high school students crashed in Black Forest around 1 a.m. Monday, according to the Colorado State Patrol. CSP tells News 5 that a 2009 Mini Cooper was traveling eastbound on E. Baptist Assembly Rd. at a high rate of speed when the driver blew through a stop sign at Roller Coaster Rd. When the car crossed Roller Coaster Rd., it went airborne, spun off the road, went through a ditch and a grove of trees.
The driver, a 17-year-old from Parker, suffered minor injuries. He was wearing his seatbelt.
Two of the passengers, 17-year-old Beau Begier, and 18-year-old Ryan Pappas, both from Monument, died at the scene. Begier was not wearing his seatbelt and was thrown from the car. Pappas was wearing a seatbelt, but suffered fatal injuries in the crash.
A third passenger, a 17-year-old from Monument, was wearing his seatbelt, but was seriously injured in the crash. He was taken to a local hospital by helicopter.
The 17-year-old driver was arrested and taken to a juvenile detention facility. He is facing charges including vehicular homicide.
CSP says alcohol and speed led to this crash, which is still under investigation.
