A new tollgate to Pikes Peak will officially open tomorrow at 10 a.m.
The new gateway and tollgate includes a three-lane entrance area, offices, a break room and storage. The facility is now more than six times bigger than the old tollgate.
The City of Colorado Springs has operated the Pikes Peak Highway in partnership with the United States Forest Service under a term special use permit since 1948. Each year the highway staff welcomes more than 250,000 visitors to one of the region's most notable landmarks.
Immediately following the ceremony will be a reception and opportunity to walk through the new facilities. Pikes Peak will offer a $2 discount per vehicle for the entire day for all guests.
