The Colorado Department of Emergency Management confirms 2 miners have died in an accident in Ouray County. The Ouray County Sheriff says a call first came in at 7:20 a.m. Sunday morning that there was an incident at the Virginius mine. 20 people were taken to hospitals throughout the region, at least one in critical condition. Initial reports were that 2 people were also trapped.
Star Mine Operations, LLC, the owner of the mine, says they have confirmed that all personnel who were on site are accounted for. The Company is also in the process of contacting the listed emergency contacts of the miners who have been transported to the various hospitals. Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) is involved and on-site.
