LAFAYETTE, Colo. (AP) - A man and woman are hospitalized after a package left at a Lafayette home exploded.

The Denver Post reports the blast happened at about 1 p.m. Saturday, when a woman picked up two packages left at her doorstep and carried them to her Volvo. One of the packages exploded.

At least one of the unidentified victims reportedly suffered burns, but the condition of the two was not immediately known.

Lafayette Police Cmdr. Gene McCausey tells the Longmont Times-Call that at least half a dozen people have been evacuated from the immediate area and are staying with neighbors until the scene is deemed safe.

A number of agencies have responded, including bomb squad personnel, and the investigation is expected to continue into the night.

McCausey says evidence inside the Volvo is being X-rayed to see if it's safe to move.
