2 arrested after a short stand-off in Divide

Teller County Sheriff Mike Ensminger tells News First 5 that a short stand off in the early morning hours of Saturday morning has ended with the arrests to two adults in Divide.

Sheriff Ensminger tell us that Jarod Adams was reported to have been driving up and down E. Longbow Drive, honking his horn and yelling. Neighbors called to complain and deputies were dispatched to investigate the situation. When deputies arrived at the home of Jarod Adams in the 300 block of E. Longbow Dr they were met by Adams who had a handgun in his hands. When deputies ordered him to put the weapon down Adams then retreated into the house, barricading the doorway.

A Short time later Adam's wife Hannah came to the door and deputies attempted to persuade her to exit the home. She then stepped away from the door and back into the home. Dispatchers attempted to talk with Mrs. Adams to find out if she was staying in the home under her own free will or being held captive.

Dispatchers reported to the Sheriff that her speech was slurred and she sounded intoxicated. A short time later Sheriff Ensminger arrived and began talking with Jarod who during the course of the 30 minute conversation calmed down. The Sheriff negotiated with Mr Adams to put his weapon down and exit the home. Mr. Anderson then demanded that the Sheriff come into the home unarmed to talk with him. The Sheriff then told Adams that he would meet him at the door. The Sheriff then began talking with Mr. Adams through the screen door and was able to see Adams was unarmed. He was able to signal to deputies who were hidden out of site to storm the door taking Adams into custody without further incident.

Both Jarod and Hannah Adams were arrested and have been charged with multiple Misdemeanors such as Disorderly Conduct, Obstruction and Resisting Arrest.
