A 15-year-old Buena Vista teen has been found dead near Skyline Drive, west of Canon City.
The teenager had been missing since Saturday when police took a runaway report on him from his father, who lives in Canon City. The teen had been in town visiting relatives.
Family members told police the youth liked to hike in the hills around Skyline Drive, an area known locally as "the hog backs". Family members searched the area Sunday but couldn't find him.
Today, Search and Rescue teams went with the family. Family members ultimately found the boy's body around 5:30 p.m.
Canon City Police Chief Duane McNeill says the boy had three cell phones on him: his own, his father's, and a newly-purchased cell phone. Investigators will check text messages and phone call history to help them with their investigation.
They have also talked with a Canon City woman who police say may have had some kind of relationship with the teen. Police say when the boy was missing, the woman told police she knew the boy but did not know where he was.
The cause of death has not been determined, but police say they do not see any initial signs of foul play. We'll have the latest on News First 5 at Ten--live from Canon City.
