14-year-old stops runaway bus

Students had a bumpy ride on their way to school this morning. Colorado Spring officers were sent to an accident on Chelton and Platte.

Officers discovered that a bus driver was taking 17 students to school, when the bus driver discovered his seatbelt was unlocked. A trash can tipped over during the turn and the driver fell out of the seat trying to catch the spill. The driver fell down into the stairwell and could not get up quickly. The school bus was crossing the dirt median and started into the on-coming lanes.

A quick thinking student was able to pull the emergency brake and stop the bus. No vehicles or objects were struck. No injuries occurred. No accident investigation was required. No traffic citations were issued. The students were on their way to Colorado Springs Early College.
