    The Bureau of Land Management has updated the status of the Royal Gorge Fire as of 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. The fire has burned an estimated 3,100 acres and remains at 20% containment. 20 structures have been lost, but the Royal Gorge Bridge remains intact.

    Royal Gorge Bridge sustained minor damage

    The Royal Gorge Bridge did sustain minor damage from the Royal Gorge Fire.

    An in-depth inspecition of the bridge won't be able to be completed until the fire dies down, but a brief inspection showed some minor damage.

    There is no word on what structures around the Bridge and Park survived.

    Firefighters are starting to gain control of the Royal Gorge Fire.

    BLM says the fire is now 20% contained.

    The acreage of the fire has been downgraded from last night, and is now 3,000 acres big.

    Twenty structures were lost.

    The cause is still under investigation.

    All fire evacuations lifted in Huerfano County

    All evacuations have now been lifted in Huerfano County following the Klickus fire which is located 5 miles west of LaVeta. According to Laurie Cordova with the Huerfano County Office of Emergency Management the fire burned approximately 60 acres and is now 75% contained.  About 40 fire fighters remain in the area.

    Stage I Fire Restriction has been implemented in Huerfano County; effective immediately.

    Territorial prison in Canon City evacuated

    Inmates from the Territorial Prison are being moved to the Centennial Complex in the East Prison Complex in Canon City.

    Those 881 inmates will be transported throughout the night.

    Twenty-four inmates from the Territorial Prison Infirmary were transferred to another complex earlier today.

    UPDATE: Huerfano County Fire

    The fire burning in the Middle Creek area, west of La Veta, is now estimated to be about 40 to 50 acres.

    No structures have been damaged at this point, but two families have been evacauted because of the fire.

    There are multiple agencies, including the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention, are on the scene helping to fight the fire. 

    For those evacauted becase of the fire, there is a Red Cross shelter set up at the Walsenburg Community Center.

    UPDATE: Huerfano County wildfire

    LA VETA - Firefighters are battling an approximately 10 acre wildfire fire in the Middle Creek area, west of La Veta. Multiple Agencies are currently battling the fire. A reverse 911 was sent out to around 200 people in that area, and people are being asked to evacuate immediately.

    There is a shelter at the Walsenburg Community Center on 10th Street.

    The Red Cross has been called, and is on their way.

    Huerfano County battling a wildfire

    LA VETA - Another wildfire has erupted in the area of Middle Creek Fire west of La Veta in Huerfano County. The fire is near the railroad track for the Rio Grande Scenic Railroad. A fire in the same area occurred on May 24-The Occidental Fire, which was caused by sparks from the tourist train. (More)
