Republican Presidential Candidate John McCain is no stranger to Colorado, but today he flew to Pueblo to talk directly to voters.
"I think Pueblo is a swing area," McCain told our Adam Atchison. Even though there's a lot of Democrats, they lean independent. I've got a lot of work to do in this state. It's a swing state. It's up for grabs and I think it's important I travel all around this state."
While in our area, McCain heard directly from veterans. He says their livelihood is important and hopes to help them get the health care they need to recover from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and other combat-related injuries.
He also recognizes the repeat commitment local soldiers have made in the war on terror.
"Many families have been badly stressed because of the repeated tours they've had to serve in Iraq. I'm committed to a larger military. I'm committed to bringing our troops home with honor and victory. If we do what Senator Obama wants to do, it will be home in defeat. You notice he never uses the word victory."
McCain said while he's happy that Congress passed an economic recovery plan, he believes more action is needed.
"I want to emphasize. This isn't the solution. This is the tourniquet that stops the bleeding. We have a lot more things to do to stabilize home prices, create jobs - and get our economy going again."
McCain said he'll likely be back in this battleground state before November 4th. He ended our one-on-one interview wishing he could stay for saturday's big Air Force-Navy showdown.
"Thanks for doing this," he said. "I wish I was coming to the game tomorrow! If I didn't have a debate on Tuesday, I'd think about it."
