Barack Obama says it's in Israel's best interest to reach a lasting peace with the Palestinians.
Among other things Wednesday, he's been trying to allay doubts about his support for Israel. Obama says he has an "unshakable commitment to Israel's security."
He's also been meeting with Palestinian leaders on the West Bank. As far as Jerusalem is concerned, Obama said it will be the capital of Israel. He said that issue should be settled through negotiation between the parties involved. He emphasized it's not the job of the United States to dictate the form that will take.
Obama is defending his proposal to negotiate with Iran, saying he'd use "big sticks and big carrots" to turn the country's leaders away from developing nuclear weapons.
