Like free weights or yoga mats, gym-friendly sports bras are essential to your workout. The  Good Housekeeping Institute puts some bras to the test. One tester says, "when you're on an elliptical machine or a treadmill and you're running, sometimes your chest is moving faster than you would like it to and it's a little painful."

Textiles director, Kathleen Huddy says, "if your breasts move while you exercise you're very, very uncomfortable.  And if you're a larger sized woman with a bigger cup it is extremely uncomfortable.  So what we wanted to do was find out what the new technologies of these new bras for women who have a d cup or more how they would perform and how the women would feel about them.  We did a number of tests on these garments and had women who were size d cup up to a size triple d run in the bras and then we measured their breast movement because we wanted to see how well the breast supported the breast."

The Moving Comfort Maia lived up to its name in the tests. "this was a non-underwire bra.  It had a nice, wide elastic bottom that was coated with a terrycloth finish, it had the adjustable velcro straps that also goes up to a size E," says Huddy. This bra costs $44.

Another winner was the Champion Powerback underwire bra. "It has a higher cut here to mesh panels and the curvature of the arms for better movement and it also has the t-back, but its an underwire style for those ladies that prefer a little bit more support," says Huddy. It costs $38. A tester says, "the back is kind of a v-shaped, nice to look at but it also had good coverage."
