Hard times can lead to desperate measures. A sure sign of that trend: People are selling treasured possessions for cold, hard cash, and the internet is making it easier than ever.
Drop-off stores that specialize in helping people sell on eBay and other auction sites will do all the hard work for you, from photographing to shipping. Lately, they've noticed something a huge increase in business.
Craigslist, the super-classifieds site, is scrambling to add server capacity to accommodate ads that often have sad personal messages such as "must sell, lost job," or "must sell because of bills."
Some thrift store owners say their numbers are way up, now that buying retail has become a luxury for cash-strapped customers.
