Stress helps the heart survive heart attacks

Experiencing short periods of stress on the heart might help you survive a major heart attack, according to researchers at the University of Cincinnati. They found when blood flow is blocked briefly multiple times, it activates something called a jak-stat pathway which protects the heart muscle.
The jak-stat pathway actually conditions the heart to handle longer and more serious cardiac stress and protects it from damage. Researchers hope their findings could lead to the development of drugs that would harness the benefits of the jak-stat pathway to protect patients from serious damage during a heart attack.
