Britney Spears was taken to a hospital early Thursday morning, reportedly for a mental evaluation. The pop star was escorted, in an ambulance, by more than a dozen police motorcycles, two squad cars and two helicopters.

A Los Angeles police officer said Spears was taken to the hospital to "get help."

Spears' high profile personal problems began about four weeks ago when police were called to her home when she refused to return her sons to her ex-husband Kevin Federline. The couple divorced last summer after nearly three years of marriage.
