With the recent tragedies in Myanmar and China you've probably heard a lot about searching for victims when disaster strikes. Some California college students are making robots that can go where humans can't to find victims.
Students at Santa Clara University are building robots designed to carry out rescues on land and at sea.
"We're trying to find the technologies that don't already exist," explained Dr. Chris Kitts.
Professor Kitts leads Santa Clara's engineering students and their robots through training exercises. They work with devices of all sizes to try and help rescue teams.
"The hypothesis we have is that more robots are better than one, and we're trying to show that's the case," Kitts said. The Santa Clara students recently went to Lake Tahoe to test their robot in a much bigger body of water.
The goal is to eventually measure the fault lines under the lake.
