D-11 schools to remain open

Two Colorado Springs elementary schools will stay open - at least for the next academic year. A District-11 spokesperson says the board will not close Pike and Longfellow elementary schools next year.
However, the schools are not in the clear. They could still be closed in the future. One parent, Peter Kilman, opposes the closure, "It's not just the closeness of the school, it's the incredibleness of the school. If it wasn't good, I'd bus my kids to another school or drive them myself. And it looks like that's what we may have to do."
The board is expected to finalize its decision at a meeting on May 7.
