Great Outdoors Colorado, or GOCO, announced $75 million in grants this week to fund parks, outdoor and open space projects across the state; $57 million of the total will go to long-term Legacy Projects.
The money will pay of the expansion of Cheyenne Mountain State Park. It will increase by 962 acres. And the coveted mountainside location known as Section 16, with open space and trails. The 640 acre parcel connects Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs.
Nearly $5 million goes to an El Paso, Pueblo, Lincoln and Crowley counties partnership project called Peaks to Plains. The money will be used for preserving 29,000 acres of agricultural land.
The GOCO Trust was created by voters and is funded by lottery proceeds.
