An assistant football coach from Pueblo West High School is under investigation by the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office.
KUSA-TV reports Dan Sanchez was in a hallway at the school when a fight broke out on December 13. Two students allegedly attacked a classmate and broke his jaw.
The sheriff's office wouldn't talk about why Sanchez is under investigation, citing that the case is still ongoing. "That case is not completed and in that regard it would be premature to talk to the investigation, without having the facts to speak to," said J.R. Hall, Pueblo County Undersheriff.
Sanchez has been put on administrative leave by School District 70.
In addition to the attack, another recent incident has raised fears at the school. A hit list was written on a bathroom wall, threatening attacks on other students. Sheriff deputies say they are working to ease tensions at the school through education. Investigators want to assure parents that the situation is under control. "I have no indication that there is any threat out there that will detract from the educational process and we have no information that there is a rising problem," said Hall.
