PCC unveils new student cafeteria

Pueblo Community College's sterile cafeteria has been replaced by Pueblo Joe's, which feels more like an upscale restaurant and lounge than an institutional cafeteria. Formica and chrome have been replaced by a pleasing palette of earth tones, pendant lights and club chairs.
Students and staff can eat at bistro-style tables, sink into club chairs while drinking coffee and hanging out with friends, or surf the internet. Pueblo Joe's is also outfitted with flat screen TV's.
The food is also different--PCC has brought in Park East, a Pueblo institution, to provide food service. On Monday, students had a choice of burgers, wraps, a salad bar, even chicken picatta. And the prices are low enough to fit a student's budget.
The cafeteria remodel is the first manifestation of President John Garvin's vision of a college that's more comfortable for students and a resource for the entire community. A computer station in Pueblo Joe's is reserved for community access. Next on Dr. Garvin's agenda--the library.
The entire cafeteria remodel was completed for $119,000. The college kept costs down by using its own workers for painting, carpentry, and wiring, and purchased the furniture from prison industries.
