A citizen's group is trying to stop gas drilling near their homes. The Front Range Environmental Resource Coalition was formed in response to Dyad Petroleum's plan to drill two exploratory gas wells near Mount Herman in northern El Paso County. Dyad has leased 21,000 acres of Pike National Forest land. The forest service has been studying the drilling proposal for several years and will issue an environmental impact statement within the next month. The public will have thirty days to comment. The BLM will decide whether or not to issue drilling permits. Group members are concerned that the drilling will negatively affect water and air quality. They also worry about wildlife in the region and how drilling will impact property value.
