Ancient artifacts found in nearby forests

US Forest Service volunteers are sifting through 2,000 historical artifacts found in the Pike and San Isabel National Forests. The items range from a 7,000 year old arrowhead to castoffs from miners and loggers.
One volunteer is trying to figure out if a chip of china dug up in an old mining camp around Grenella Pass is Chinese or American made. It appears to be from the 1800's. "In these logging camps and mining camps, you think of these tough, rough guys. But they've got, sometimes, quite fine porcelain up there," said Cathie Kamke.
Most of the volunteers are students of archeology. They are responsible for cataloging the pieces for further study and display. Some items could end up in museums.
