For the first time in state history, the average price for gallon of regular unleaded gasoline is more than three-dollars in the month of February. AAA Colorado spokesman Eric Escudero says, "The scary thing is that we're hitting gasoline at three dollars a gallon levels in February instead of May and it makes you wonder, how high-price will they get when we normally see gas prices peak out around Memorial day?"
As of Friday, the statewide average for a gallon of regular was at $3.03. According to Escudero, that’s $0.78 more than the same time a year ago.
There is a few cents worth of good news, though, for people in
Drivers have no doubt dished-out three buck a gallon before, but usually during summer months when travel is high. Megan Duncan was filling up at Western Convenience in Castle Rock, Friday. News First asked, "How much money did you spend? She answered, "57 dollars." "How does that make you feel?" "It sucks."
Other drivers didn't seem to be surprised by the record-setting prices. Doug Cole says, "Its been going on back and forth for so long, its almost as though you've become acclimated to it."
The title of the state's most expensive gas, Friday, went to Vail where a gallon of regular averaged more than $3.20 a gallon.
