Amtrak collision in Southern Colorado kills one

An Amtrak train slammed into a car at a crossing in Las Animas, killing one person. The victim was in the car. No one aboard the train was injured. It's unknown how many people were aboard the train at the time.
Witnesses say the driver tried to beat the train as she crossed the tracks, but didn't have enough time to get all the way across before the train struck. Her name has not been released.
The collision happened just before 8 a.m.
