Colorado State Troopers say one person died after rolling an SUV on Colorado 50, about 2 miles West of Cotopaxi.
The troopers describe the crash in a press release: The driver failed to negotiate a left curve, (ran) off the right side of the road and corrected back into the eastbound lane where the driver then overcorrected to the right to avoid the westbound lane. The vehicle began to rotate in a clockwise direction and rolled 1 1/2 times off the right side of the road ejecting one of the occupants onto the eastbound shoulder. The vehicle then collided with a large rock and continued a short distance eastbound on its top against a mountain. The vehicle then rolled 1/2 time back onto its wheels. The vehicle came to final rest on its wheels facing west on the eastbound shoulder.
The ejected occupant was transported to Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center and was pronounced dead a short time later. Another occupant was not ejected and was taken to Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center with severe injuries. Neither occupant was wearing their seatbelts.
The Colorado State Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash.
The Colorado State Patrol would like to remind everyone to take 2 seconds for safety and buckle their seatbelts.
