Another close call as another fire breaks out east of Colorado Springs. For the third time in the past few weeks, a fire puts many homes in danger near Peyton.

About 12 acres burned at the intersection of Hwy 94 and Peyton Hwy around 1:45 p.m. on Sunday. Firefighters from several El Paso County stations and Colorado Springs flew to the area. Several neighbors pitched in, picking up shovels and hoses. It took about half an hour to get it contained., but not before worrying many area homeowners.

“I'm thinking don't burn down our house please,” said Tye Bunker, who lives nearby. “It gets really scary.”

Fire fighters say this is turning out to be a bad fire season.

" We haven't had a whole lot of moisture and what moisture we've had has put a little bit of a damper on it,” said Michael Henley, Ellicott Fire Protection District. “Nature's caused a lot of it, but there's been quite a few human caused fires.”

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
