Towering flames raced through Crowley County, jumping roads and highways. The residents of Ordway grabbed their loved ones and ran for their lives under mandatory evacuation. Many came home to find everything just as they left it. For two dozen families, though, they returned to little more than charred foundations. Now, help is needed.
The Red Cross has ten volunteers in Ordway providing services for residents. A shelter is set up at Ordway High School. The Red Cross is now taking applications for food, clothing and emergency shelter. The best way you can help is with a cash donation - click here.
The Salvation Army sent a mobile kitchen to provide food for displaced residents, emergency workers and volunteers.
Offers to volunteer time, pastures, kennels, water, and services can be made by calling 211.
Cash donations can also be sent directly to Ordway:
Crowley County Community Foundation
c/o First National Bank of Ordway
P.O. Box 278
Ordway, CO 81063
Colorado Springs and Security firefighters will collect money for the families of the fallen firefighters. They'll be at the Tiffany Square Shopping center near Woodmen and I-25 on Tuesday, April 22 from 6 am to noon.
