Watch VideoStricter "move over law" enforcement begins in Pikes Peak Region

Local law enforcement across the Pikes Peak region will be stepping up enforcement of the "move over law" through the month of April. It's a measure enacted almost two years ago to safeguard emergency and road crews working along Colorado roads, but officers say not enough people are aware of it.
The move over law applies when drives are passing official vehicles stopped on the shoulder with their emergency lights flashing. Captain Chuck Cargin with Colorado State Patrol instructs, “If it's on any road that has two lanes running the same direction, if possible you need to move to the left and clear that one whole lane." If there’s not a second lane he says driver new to slow to a prudent speed.
Drivers will now see more signs along Colorado roadways warning that officers will ticket them if they don't move over when passing vehicles with lights activated. Included are: police, fire, ambulances and CDOT vehicles like plows with lights activated. All traffic enforcement agencies in the Pikes Peak region plan to more strictly enforce the law.
