Springs school janitor on paid leave

A Colorado Springs school janitor is on paid administrative leave while police look into an allegation he threatened a 10-year-old girl, school officials said.

54-year-old Benjamin Davis was put on paid administrative leave from Palmer High School on Wednesday, said Elaine Naleski, D-11 spokeswoman.

"This is a Colorado Springs police investigation at this particular time," she said.

The girl's family tells News First she, along with her mother and aunt, attended a meeting at Adams Elementary School on Friday March 21. They say the school organized the meeting because the girl and one of her classmates, Benjamin Davis’ daughter, weren’t getting along. They say Davis and his wife also attended the meeting.

A police affidavit says Davis began threatening the other little girl. “If -- [name withheld] ever shows up near his daughter or on his doorstep, he will get a gun, shoot her and kill her,” it reads.

Davis was charged with harassment and is scheduled to be in court in May.  Court records show the family of the girl he allegedly harassed has a temporary restraining order against him. A meeting about a permanent restraining order is scheduled for Monday, March 31.  Records also show he pleaded guilty to an assault charge in 1998.

Davis has worked as a janitor at the school since 2005, school officials say.
