Gas prices could reach record highs this summer. Current prices per gallon are higher than they normally are in late March. Energy analysts worry that as refineries switch from winter blend to summer blend, prices could climb another fifteen cents a gallon.
Colorado AAA tracks gas prices across the state and nation. They say Pueblo and Colorado Springs currently have the lowest priced gas in the state at about $3.10 a gallon. But diesel fuel is at an all time high. That will drive up the price of goods and services.
AAA spokesman Eric Escudero says early reservations indicate people intend to take vacations, but will travel shorter distances and stay at cheaper motels to compensate for the extra fuel cost. Summer traditionally brings higher gas prices as people travel and demand increases. Escudero reminds motorists to keep cars properly tuned and tires inflated to get the most "bang for your buck." One year ago, gas was 55 cents cheaper than it is today.
