Lake Pueblo ramping-up Zebra Mussel battle
Bea Karnes
Lake Pueblo State Park is looking for summer workers to check boats for Zebra Mussels and to educate the public about the invasive shellfish.
Two adult mussels were discovered in the reservoir last November. An extensive survey that included scuba divers failed to turn-up any more mussels, but the state is taking the threat seriously. Zebra mussels are not native to this country and damage the ecosystems of lakes they invade.
A $1 million grant from the Colorado Water Conservation Board will pay for salaries, research and education.
