Off-duty Fountain police officers rallyed for a couple of hours outside city hall. They want residents to know that they support Police Chief Charles Crawford. Crawford was placed on paid administrative leave last week. City Manager Scott Trainor offered no details - saying it is a personnel issue. The chief faces no criminal charges. He took over the department in April of 2005 and was the third police chief in five years. Supporters say he made ethics and integrity his top priorities. Some of those rallying outside city hall brought their concerns to tonight's council meeting. A letter signed by police officers was delivered to council members. Passages like "we believe right is right and wrong is wrong. We will not look the other way, in spite of who may ask us to" and, "we simply cannot stand idly by and let those with a personal agenda, ridicule and berate" raise questions about what and who is behind the suspension. The city manager says it's his decision alone. He adds, a decision will be made within thirty days.
