A wildfire burned about 500 acres in Elbert County on Friday. The sheriff's office said it has been contained. Several agencies, including some from El Paso County, helped fight it and mop it up.
The wildfire started just before 6:00 p.m. Friday night about six miles east of Kiowa along Highway 86 across the El Paso County line in Elbert County.
About 500 acres of mostly prairieland has burned. The major problem has been the gusting wind causing the wildfire to shift for hours.
Officials said at least two residents were evacuated as a precaution and some livestock have been moved, but ultimately no structures were damaged or destroyed and no livestock were lost.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
