Pueblo City Schools is currently taking applications for two public schools that are turning into magnet schools this fall.
Corwin Middle School and Fountain Elementary will become magnet schools. It's due to declining enrollment or low student achievement. As a magnet school, the district gets federal funding to help reverse this cycle.
Students who currently attend Corwin or Fountain will have to apply to keep going to school there or they'll have to go to another school next year.
"What we're doing is we're taking two schools that weren't performing as well as we would have all liked, and we're turning them into international schools of excellence," said Casey Mahon, Director of Public Relations for Pueblo City Schools.
This also means some other middle and elementary schools are changing their boundaries. The district is hosting meetings to explain this to parents. On Saturday, February 23 there will be a meeting at Somerlid Elementary School at 9 a.m., and there will be a meeting at Risley Middle School at 10:30 a.m.
