Our mountains got even more snow with this latest weather system. In fact, up in Park County, officials have declared a state of emergency. They are dealing with so much snow that it is crippling that county.
Park County is west and north of Colorado Springs and is geographically larger than the state of Delaware. In some areas the snow drifts are 25 feet high.
About 250 families are either trapped in their homes or can't get to their homes. It has been that way for about a week now. Each day, there is more snow and wind, so it is tough for emergency crews to make any headway.
Several cities, including Colorado Springs and Pueblo, are offering help. Chief Mike Roll is with the Northwest Fire Protection. He said, "It's concrete snow. You have to take a piece of heavy machinery, a front end loader, a bulldozer. That's the only way it's going to move."
With better weather expected Friday and the additional help, it is hoped that 85% of the roads will at least be passable.
