Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper says the Democratic National Convention host committee has raised the $40.6 million it promised.
Hickenlooper told city council members yesterday the move to have Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama deliver his acceptance speech at Invesco Field at Mile High was a boost in fundraising because the venue had more luxury boxes for donors.
Obama's speech on the convention's final night was originally scheduled at the Pepsi Center, where the first three days of the convention will still be hosted.
The host committee had struggled with fundraising in the months before the convention, missing two out of four deadlines during the year. They were $11 million dollars short in June.
